As many of you know, the cause I support the most now and always will be to help raise funds for childhood cancer research. Sometimes, however, I like to support fundraising for happy reasons too and this one is a goodie. The woman I am about to tell you about has photographed my children on several occasions.
Felicia, photographer extraordinaire, has sang to my boys about “poopy” on their head and acted like a crazy goofball just so she could capture their silly, boyish essence on camera. Besides being a talented photographer who was able to make all three of my boys smile at once (not an easy task), Felicia is also an awesome mama to her son Eli. And by awesome, I mean she has modeled life lessons for him that some of us only talk about. She has shaved her head for St. Baldricks to show him the importance of helping children cope with cancer. She has enrolled him in a preschool with both typical and special needs children to show him that it’s okay to be different and that everyone should be included. And she has addressed topics of discussion with him that some of us might be too afraid to address. I should also mention she has the most amazing sense of humor, cracking me up with her hilarious posts and videos.
Felicia is passionate about growing their family by one more, but this time she needs to have a surrogate carry her child. This is a very expensive endeavor and she is humbly asking for help. I know resorting to a GoFundMe campaign was extremely difficult for her because she felt awkward about asking for money from her family and friends, but to me, that just shows how much she really, really, really wants this child.
I know you might be thinking, but why should I donate to someone I don’t know, especially when there are so many important causes in this world that need our help? I’ll tell you why: Because Felicia and her son represent so much that is good with this world – a caring mother who is raising her son with the kind of values that I wish were more commonplace. If we had more families like this one, I truly believe we’d perpetuate a wider and wider net of acceptance, and love. Please click the link HERE to read her full story and I’m hoping you too will be inspired to donate ANY amount to help her reach her goal.
Also, if you want a really good laugh, Felicia recently posted a VIDEO on Facebook that she submitted to the game show $100,000 Pyramid, hoping to be selected as a participant so she can use her winnings toward paying for the surrogacy. It’s creative, funny, and makes me root for her even more.
So, c’mon, let’s help their dream come true of expanding their family….Thank you!
