3rd Annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand: Why We Do This

June 7, 2016 in Family life,Inspirational Stuff

For the 3rd year in a row, we are holding our Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser to raise money for a cause that means SO much to us: childhood cancer. Middle Dude and I are getting ready to make our homemade lemonade and we hope you’ll be eager to drink a cup either in person or online and help us raise much needed funds for pediatric cancer research. Did you know less than 4% of all funding at the National Cancer institute goes toward research for childhood cancers? That is unacceptable!

And in case you need a refresher as to what this cause is all about…

It’s about making a meaningful difference in the battle against childhood cancer by holding an Alex’s Lemonade Stand during this year’s National Lemonade Days June 10-12, 2016. This is an annual June tradition which started 12 years ago when ALSF founder Alex Scott (1996-2004) held the first lemonade stand and challenged the nation to help her raise money for pediatric cancer cures by selling one cup of lemonade at a time . Over $1 million for childhood cancer research is raised annually through Alex’s Lemonade stands and events, which occur both during the National Lemonade Days as well as year-round.

Middle Dude has continued to support his brother and other children affected by cancer by staying involved with this cause.

This year our stand has even more meaning as we are holding it in honor of a 10-year old boy named Paulie, who recently lost his battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma, which also happens to be the same type of cancer that Matthew had. Our hearts break every day for Paulie’s family, but we continue to be awed by their strength and grace in the face of such tremendous grief. We hope to make Paulie’s family proud by surpassing our previous fundraising goals. To read more about our connection to Paulie’s family, check out my recent essay in Brain, Child HERE.

And, here are the details for our stand:

When: Saturday, June 11th, 2016 from 11am – 4pm

Where: Chatsworth Avenue School carnival – on the playground

So, if you’re a “local,” please stop by our stand at Chatsworth this Saturday. If you can’t make it, you can always donate online – ANY amount is always appreciated. To donate on our team page, click HERE.

I don’t know if you know this – I don’t often talk about it – but my son has cancer. G-d, I hate typing that sentence. But he’s doing (knock wood, poy poy) very well. So I thank you on behalf of moms and children like me for taking part in this important fundraiser. Bless you and your family, Linda. An extra big hug from me to you.

What can I say, but thank you for doing this again and I know this is a cause near and ear to your own heart. Hugs <3

My heart is crushed to hear of Paulie. Just devastating.

I love that you do this, and I KNOW how important it is to you and your precious family. Sharing with hopes that more people can support you!
