Wordless Wednesday: Plane Crash

February 26, 2013 in Wordless Wednesday

Is this real or the opening scene from “Lost“?

Before you freak out and think I was witness to a plane crash, I wasn’t. This picture was taken at Universal Studios in California on their studio tour, where they drive you past different movie sets they’ve used over the years. This one blew my mind. It was an actual plane that they brought in and wrecked for a movie. I think it was the Tom Cruise movie, “War of the Worlds.” I can’t remember what they told us about it because I was so taken with the realistic, scary scene. I’ll admit I am a bit obsessed with disaster movies, be it “Titanic,” “The Poseidon Adventure,” “Earthquake,” or “The Towering Inferno.” I’ve seen them all, even though they scare the crap out of me. Nevertheless, I still watch them. I think it’s the reason I became hooked on the show, “Lost.” A plane crashes on a seemingly deserted island, and many of the passengers survive. This set at Universal reminded me of the opening scene from “Lost,” which I faithfully watched for the years it aired.

I totally freaked out and thought about the first episode of Lost! Glad you’re ok. And that you’re back.

Thanks! And yeah, seeing that wreckage live (even though it was fake) was really freaky!

Scary, but interesting picture! Definitely reminds me of the pilot episode of Lost….before it got all confusing. I’m also a fan of disaster movies, can’t get enough of them…probably why I enjoy watching shows like The Walking Dead too.

Yes, “Lost” did get all confusing – I agree with that! I’m still not even sure how that show ended…but anyway, glad to hear you’re also a fan of disaster movies.

So glad you had such a fab time in Hollywoodland! Great pic (bet your loved ones freaked out seeing it at first – so real!) I’ll be sharing your WW!

Thanks for sharing it and oddly enough, I was more freaked out by it than anyone else!

I love seeing those pics from Universal Studios. My dad went on a business trip to California when I was a kid and got to go to Universal Studios one of those days. I remember he took a picture of the clock tower scene from Back to the Future at the time, which was one of my favorite movies and just thought was totally cool that he got to see that. Thanks for sharing and looks like you had a fun vacation :)

Yes, we saw the clock tower too – that set is still there and used for other movies!

how cool is this whole internet/blogging thing?
It is not just to see other places in photos and videos, it is to share (to whatever degree of vicariousity-ness-hood) the experiences of people we know.
v cool

Thanks and you are right, the sharing of experiences is a very cool benefit of this whole crazy blogging world!

Awesome photo! I would be awed and drawn to it, too. I can’t believe they’ll wreck a whole plane for a movie. I guess they can spare the expense, LOL. Wow! Tweeted this. Happy Wednesday!

Thanks for the tweet and you are right, kind of crazy that they’d wreck a real plane for that…but that’s Hollywood I guess!

Very cool pic! It sounds like you guys had a great trip!
I wish there was a show on now that I could love as much as Lost… :)

I won’t lie, my heart stopped when I saw that wreckage! Good to know it’s only a set :)

ohboymom February 28, 2013 at 8:24 pm

My heart stopped too, even though I knew it was a set all along…it was THAT realistic looking!

Wow – that is a bit too realistic. Have not been to a Universal Studios tour since the kids were little but they loved it, just like I bet your boys did.

I remember seeing that and feeling unsettled too!
