Ten Reasons for NOT Taking A Family Vacation

August 31, 2012 in Uncategorized

We recently returned from our annual August vacation to Cape Cod.  As I stare at the Thule carrier that will remain on top of my car for many more weeks until my husband remembers to take it off, I am reminded of ten reasons why it may be better to stay home.

  1. Packing.  I’ll admit that packing for three boys is a lot easier than packing for three girls but still, the boys want the BIG items like fishing poles, bikes and golf clubs.  Our car looks like a traveling circus by the time we’re all set to go.
  2. You still won’t be able finish that book on the beach, by the pool, or in that inviting hammock.
  3. Your kids will still fight in a new environment.
  4. Rainy days are even harder away from home, especially since you left the Xbox at home.
  5. You’ll never, ever get the sand out of your car.
  6. You’ll still have to entertain your kids.
  7. Your kids will complain endlessly without their electronic toys.
  8. You will eat WAY more than you do at home and thus, you will WEIGH more at the end of the vacation.
  9. It’s not relaxing, AT ALL.
  10. Unpacking and 12 loads of laundry.

Although, there is still one very important reason why I prefer taking the vacation to staying home. For me, the mom who hates to cook with every morsel of her being, I am beyond thrilled when we have an excuse to eat out for many of our meals.  Blissfully happy! What’s the main reason you like to go on family vacation?  Please comment below or tweet me your reason.  I’d love to hear it!

The best reason for a vacation is I’m not tempted at all to get to any of the projects around the house done. Since we will be home this long weekend – I should probably tackle one or two of them!

That’s a good one! Perhaps I’ll try to do the same this weekend…

Oh, I’m with ya on the vacay issue– seems like our faves have been local staycays because if we’re gonna be less than relaxed at least we’ll be home and unpacked in no time. =)

Following ya now from the Bloggy Mom’s September link up. If you’re up for a bit of a ride I’d love it if you’d join me at localsugarhawaii.com where we’re riding the wave of life one little adventure at a time.

Too true! When I imagine a family vacation I never picture the fighting but that, sadly, is the reality. There should be a different word for what you call it when you travel with your kids… work-trip?

Thanks for your comment, Julia and I like your new word — works for me!
